Question
Help i think my budgie's sick.  He sleeps basically all day fluffed up on his perch, or on the bottom of his cage.  And i don't think he is eating.  I have only had him for about a week, what has he sickness has he got and what can i do.

Answer
Hello Jenna! First things first, heat! get a heat lamp and place it 14inches away from his cage. If you can, buy an infrared heat bulb. These bulbs are the healthiest when battling a cold. When a bird is sick, their body temperature drops and makes them fluff up to try to keep warm. When at the pet store, he probably contracted a virus from other birds. This cannot be helped and is not your fault. Give him plenty of weakly brewed black tea to drink, this will make him feel better for the time being. If he is on the bottom, place shredded news paper at the bottom in case he falls and needs a nice comfy spot to lay in. If he wont eat, even millet, hand feed him. Baby formula works well and some weaning pellets. Feed him with a syringe and give him the tea through the syringe if he doesn't appear to be drinking. Once a keet gets that sick, the chances of him living are slim since the virus has already affected most of his body. Hopefully he will pull through. If your pet store sells medication, you might want to pick some up. Simple medication that corrects colds and other illnesses. Thats really all you can do to help your bird. I hope your little friend makes it, good luck
