My budgie may have a facture or broken leg

I have had my budgie for about 7years now and never had any problems with her. Yesterday i noticed she was laying side ways on her perch and resting on one leg, i know that they relax their legs but its not that. She climbs up and down the bars with her beak and good leg and drags the other with her, but i dont think its broken because she can still move parts of it and use it a little bit.  she can still eat and drink and she flops the whole leg over the perch to help her balance. shes not very tame and doesnt really like anyone going too close to her and im afraid that i will stress her out by taking her to the vets or picking her up to look at it, will it just heal like that? she can still get around but if i leave it will it get worse? i dont want her to suffer but i dont think if i asked her she would want to die. it may not be broken it may just have a facture i think? please can u help because i am not an expert but i no that i dont want a vet just to put her down and i'll care for her whatever special care she may need. please help! thanks jade xxx

Hello Jade! Good news, there IS hope for your little girl. Vet bills can be expensive but that might be the best thing for her. A vet will check to make sure the leg isnt broken and isnt infected. But one thing you have to watch out for is a splint. A splint can do more harm then good to a tiny bird. It is painful and very akward for them. The best thing you can do for her right now is give her some heat (a heat lamp or a heat pad under her cage) Place some low perches and cover the bottom with some shreded news paper, soft fabric, or shavings. Place her food and water wear it is easy for her to reach. Your main goal will be to make the cage as comfortable as possible where she doesnt have to climb as much and drag her foot. a cozy little hammock might appeal to her. Thats pretty much all you can do for now, but it will make her very happy ^^ , good luck!
