Scaly face mites?

23 9:44:41

Question
I think my budgie may have scaly face mites.  He's had a light brown spot above one eyelid since we got him about a month ago.  It was very small and I thought he had just scratched it.  Today a white barnacle like grown has appeared at the corner of his beak and I his other eyelid has two very small brown spots around it.  His cere also appears slightly crusty around his beak. He's also itching his beak a lot. He's otherwise behaving and eating normally.  Since it's Saturday afternoon, there are no vets open until Monday.  Is there anything I should do in the mean time to prevent any further harm or to make him more comfortable?  It seems like at this point it's a very mild case, so I'm trying not to be too concerned (though I will of course take him to the vet as soon as possible).  However, is it odd that the beak and cere changed appearance so quickly?

Answer
Hello Amanda!
It does sound like your budgie has scaly face mites. He should be ok until Monday, if thats when your taking him. He will just be very itchy and agitated until then. The best thing you can do for him is to have fresh fruits and veggies and seeds and water for him at all times. It isnt odd that it changed quickly, he could have been scratching his face on something long enough for a sore to break threw.

Hope I Helped. Best Wishes!
