Question
Hi. I have a 1 year old female and she is showing some new behavior. She is taking to going up on my pictures on the wall, pecking and pulling with her beak on the frames. I wondered if this is nesting behavior or maybe she is just exploring her world. As I said, she has never showed this behavior before. I only have he in a cage at night and she and the male that I have are free to fly as much as they want throughout the day (I am home at these times).
Just curious. You have always given alot of great info to me.

Thanks, Dee

Answer
Hello Dee! Most females to tend to pick and pull on things when they are in the breeding mood. It doesn't necessarily mean shes going to nest but just wants to chew like she is making a nest. My females would go into my book case and chew through all the books! And other times, i find them chewing on little wooden models around the room, posters and the wall border! They just cant get enough chewing. If this becomes a problem and she starts destroying things, provide her with a lava rock or soft wooden toys to satisfy her need for chewing and hide the things you don't want her to chew. If she just appears to be pecking and not doing any damage then she is probably just playing. Keets love to peck at things and pull them for their own amusement.
