Question
Hi, I have had my female budgerigar for about 8 eight years and my male budgie for about 4 years and there was no nest box so she did not lay until about 2 years ago when we decided to put a nest box in the cage, since then she has layed 2 times the first time she layed 4 eggs and she sat on them about a month until she abandoned the nest, when i finally took them out inside was a yellow colour and hard as rock the same thing happened the second time she layed about a month ago.  Please help me i love my birds and would really want them to bring some offsprings.

Answer
One possible solution would be artificially incubating then hand-rearing them.  This is pretty tedious, and you will need to dedicate a lot of time and effort into it.  If you want to try this option, let me know and I'll tell you what to do.

Other than that, there isn't much that you can do.  If they are ignoring their eggs, you can't force them to care for them.  Sometimes budgies that are too old or two young when they start breeding they don't know what to do.  They may abandon the eggs.  No one knows why exactly, but some budgies just can't commit to being parents.

Let me know if you want tips on incubating and hand-rearing.
Merry Christmas!
