Question
My budgie is about 10 months old. he is very lazy and doesnt do anything he just sits in the cage all day sleeps, eats and cleans himself all day, he doesnt even play with his toys in fact he is scared of them. I leave the cage open but he barely comes out, only sometimes he comes out and sits on the top of the cage and goes back in. i take him out of the cage and spend time with him but he is really boring and just watches me and doesnt like to be touched. can you tell me why he is so lazy, doesnt do anything and can you tell me how to make him more playful and lively.

PS-there is nothing wrong with him, no medical problem, but he is just losing fur around his cere i dont know why, do you know?

Answer
Hello Matt,

It is quite possible that your bird might be molting right now. Some times birds can get in a bad mood when they are molting and they also will lose their feathers to grow new ones. I wouldn't be too worried about him. Give him some time and continue to leave his cage door open. You may want to try playing the radio or putting on the TV to spunk him up. If it is possible for you, you could get him a friend. This will definitely spunk him up. But for the most part, you need to give him some time and I'm sure he will come around and be friendly. It is just a phase that all birds go through. But, if he does not seem right within a month, you should really watch his behavior and may want to call a vet. But i really think there is nothing to worry about!
