Question
QUESTION: I don't no why my budgies won't beed to start with i thourght that they might both be males but there not because my female budgie won't stop laying eggs. she lays them sits of them for ages and when they don't hatch she kicks them out and starts again. They are in there own little avery in the garden out side and a box that they both go into that where the female has been laying the eggs. and they have food and water and and seem happy. the female is pure white and the male is a nive blue and i think they would make beautiful babys.

ANSWER: Hi, Gemma,

How many eggs are being laid?  You may have 2 females.  Tell me the color of their ceres (the colored area above their beaks).  Females can lay infertile eggs without breeding with a male.  How old are your birds?  Are any other birds present in the aviary?  How warm/cold is it outside in the aviary?

You need to stop the excessive egg laying for the sake of the bird's health.  Please send me answers to the above questions and I'll see if I can assist further.

Thanks.

QUESTION: sorry i forgot to tell you she is laying between 4 and 6 eggs and i think she has done it about 4 times, would taking away her nesting box stop her?

Answer
Hi again, Gemma,

This is just 1 bird laying eggs, not both.  Have you seen these birds mate?  Are they pair-bonded, i.e., does the male feed the female beak-to-beak?  Did you put any substrate in the bottom of the nesting box?  Is the female incubating these eggs properly, i.e., sitting on them 24/7 (except to come out to poop and sometimes eat)?  Is the male feeding the female while the female incubates the eggs?

Taking the nesting box down will help to stop her egg laying.  Reduce the amount of light they have available to 10-12 hours per day (or 8-10 if she still lays).  Otherwise, a certified avian vet can give the female a hormone shot that will stop her laying for 9-12 months.
