Concerned about feeding wild pigeons

Question
y concern is: we have been advised our feeding the pigeons may be contributing to an increased number of rodents.

don.t have pigeons of my own  but have started feeding pigeons on a fairly regular basis. I have researched what agnd how much to feed. These are wild pigeons near my home. I understand it is not good to have them become dependent on regular feeding, therefore we don't feed them every day. From what I have read it is best to leave them a bit hungry so they will continue to forage their own food. A friend and I walk the boardwalk where we live everyday early.  There are restaurants and stores on this route. A number of new restaurants  have also opened in the last year. A couple people have approached us recently asking if we were aware of the increase in rodent traps in the area, from about 10 to 25. We have not noticed this. It was implied this may be due to our spreading pigeon food. There are about 40-50 pigeons and they eat all the pigeon food within minutes of our feeding them. Could we be contributing to the increase of rodents?

Answer
Well, it could be that some pigeon food has gone uneaten and mice get it, but there is no real data here.
So a few people noticed a few more rodent traps? Have they been doing a survey of rodent traps? Are there really more traps? Do more traps mean there is more of a problem? If there is more of a problem is it due to your pigeon feeding or more restaurants being careless with their food scraps? Or other people feeding pigeons?
My suggestion? Forget about it. You are fine.
