7 year old Gelding

Question
Hi, I have a question concerning my 7 year old Gelding. I bought him from some friends who bought him at the horse sale. I have had him about 2 weeks. He seemed to be very calm until the first time we tried to saddle him and he bit me while being pinched. I blew it off thinking the girth might have pinched him. I sent him to my brothers house for training purposes. He is very stubborn if you try to get him to do what you want. He will rear his head and stomp his foot. I called to check on him today and my brother says he thinks he is more horse than i will be able to handle. He says he acts like a stud around the mares. I really want to bring him home I miss him so much I have already got a place in my heart for him. He doesn't act bad here but of course he is the only one here. Do you have any advice on how to fix his stubborn habits and his disrespectfulness? I want him to be a horse that we can ride and love my children love him so much and I really don't want to get reed of him. But i really have to think of their well being to. Do you have any remedies?

Answer
I would first get the Vet out and have him draw some blood to check his testosterone level. This will let you make sure that he was gelded correctly and that is not the issue. I would also have the Vet rule out any back or neck problems that might be causing him pain. If there is nothing wrong with him medically then you have two choices. One would be to have a trainer work with him for 30-60 days to see how he does, and the other would be to sell him. Unless you are experienced in working with horses who have behavior issues, then this is something that you should not do on your own.
