Question
I am from south Africa and have trained many horses in my life, but have never come across the one i have at present. He is a 3 nearly 4 year old warmblood, stands about 15.2 hh, build very stocky and does not trust a thing. He is very curious and wants to make friends but when u approach he backs off, everything is a major mission with him. We have got as far as trotting on a circle with rider on to the left but when we change to the right he totally looses it, bucks to the point that the rider is off and he still carries on. he has a slight blemish on his left eye,is it possible that the right eye is taking in to much information and therefore he kind of looses it? Please help i am not giving up, very nice horse, good bloodline(Sire:Milan Dam: Wachmann)

Answer
Hi Wanda!

The first thing I recommend is a complete check up from your vet, especially determining if he has sight loss to any degree in his left eye.  If he does have any blindness in that eye, it could account for some of his behavior.

I would stop all strenuous work or training with him until he is cleared by the vet and the sight issue is correctly diagnosed.

Write back to me after he has been cleared as fit to train and I have a few questions about his prior training before I recommend anything further.
