Possibly blind foal

Question
There is a foal at the place were I work that is showing signs of blindness. He has trouble finding his Mom and sometimes will whiney for her and look straight at her and appear to not see her. I found out that if I did not touch his wiskers or eylashes I could get dangerously close to his eye without him blinking(I did not touch his eye, because that might just cause more problems, but you get the picture). I would like to know how I can tell for sure if he is blind or not. If you can't help me plz tell me who can, because I am not finding anything on google that is helpful at all(everything about blind horses is centered on horses that go blind later in life and no one has anything to say about horses born blind).

Thank you so much for your help :)

Answer
Hi Rachael,
You do not  say how old the foal is, if he is a newborn then I would first make sure that he does not have neonatal maladjustment syndrome. If he is an older foals, then those symptoms do tend to point to the fact that the foal is  having problems with his vision. You should get a Vet down right away to examine him so that if there is any treatment it can be started. . It would be a good idea to put a bell on the mare's halter so that he can always find her.

Please let me know how it goes.
