double whale hook   hello ma'am,  most of our racehorses wear a bridle like this with double whale hooks on one side. may i know why? does double whale hooks on one side hold the bit ring more securely? the bridle design has come like that.

I am not sure!

If it is on one side, it may be for control......if the horse has a habit of running out to one side,(say the left)it may put more pressure on that side so he will run straight.From your picture, it is not attached to the bit- it just looks as if it might put more pressure on the poll or the side of the face. if you find out for sure, let ME know!  

Our harness race horses have poles that sometimes have a plastic burr on them for the same reason. It attaches from the bit to the harness. If I had the expertise I would draw you a picture!
