Question
I have a 5 year old QH gelding and he has a terrible biting problem.  I don't know much about his history. He will bite EVERYTHING!  He really likes the cross tie's and lead rope.  Coffee desn't get turned out.  His stall gets sun in the morning and is made so he can't bite.  He just got moved into a new stall.  In his old one he could bite other horses.

Answer
Hi Delaney!

You did not say if Coffee is biting people too.  It sounds like he is not well socialized to humans and other horses.

That is not good.  Also, I am concerned with why you said he is not turned out.  Turn out is an absolutely necessary part of a horse's life....regardless of age.  But, to not let a 5 yr old go out and blow off some steam and be a horse?!?  And you are asking me why he bites?!?!?

It sounds to me like you have much bigger problems than his biting.  Please consider his current situation and ask yourself  "Is he really happy?  Is this the best situation for him?"

Coffee is not in charge of his life.  He depends upon you to make the right decisions for him.  That is your responsibility and you must live up to it for his sake.
