Question

troting sammy(:(:
i just bought a 5y/o chestnut qh gelding and he is probably one of the meanest horses ive come accross in a long time. he has gotten better since i first started riding him back in april, but he is still very aggressive when it comes to his stall. if anybody get near his stall he pins his ears back and he just had that aggressive look on his face. i dont let me push him around in the stall when i go to get him. hes fine once you get the halter on him. when i have him in the cross ties he will try to bite you and he pins his ears back still. when a friend of mine when to pet him he freaked out and tried to bite her. he is "girthy" but he is a great ride.. until he is asked to trot or canter. when i first started riding him you couldnt even mount him with out spazing out.now hes okay with that. once you ask him to trot he pins his years back and always gives that pissy look again. then when you ask him to canter he throws in a buck or 2. i dont know what to do my friend who are very good with horses have been trying to help but nothing has really been having any effect. id definately like to stop the bucking and pinning the ears back. can you please help me? thank you 7 hope to hear from you soon!

Answer
Hi Lynn,
The first thing I would suggest that you do is have a complete Vet exam done on him. Have the Vet check his neck, back and legs for anything that could be causing him pain. Have him pull some blood to make sure that his testosterone is not elevated. If all the tests come back negative, then I would highly recommend sending him to a professional trainer for evaluation. He or she will be better equipped to let you know if this is an issue that you can solve with some training or if you may want to sell the horse to a home that would have the long term time to deal with him.

Let me know what happens.
