Question

Rocket the Bad Arab
Hi, My name is Robin and I recently inherited 4 Arabs ! 1 Stud who is 34 and 1 mare that is 36 ( yes this is correct I have their papers) as well as A 7 year old gelding and a 12 year old gelding.
The two older ones are no problem at all and are just a treat to be around.the 7 yr.old is at the trainers and is doing very well. But the 12 yr old is the problem. He bites, rushes you, kicks if you get near him. He is mean to the other horses. He has attacked me and bit my chest so badly that I had to have stitches and now have a huge scar. He has attacked the other mares we have. He is just violent! I am afraid he is going to hurt someone or one of the horses. He will not let the others eat he will go into the other pastures and attack if they are eating. He has sent my 3 yr. old TB into a tizzy be bullying. I am worried he is going to ruin the good riding horses we have. Hes not broke and no trainer will touch him. We can not catch him or put a halter on him. What do I do? Get rid of him. I can not sell him because of the fear he would hurt someone. I can not send him to auction because we know where he would end up.

Answer
Hi Robin,

First off, has he had a full physical, to find out if there is a physical reason for this behaviour, if not, then this would be my first option.

If there is no reason for it, or it is a tumour or something similar, I would say that having him humanely put to sleep is the safest option for both of you.  If you are at all unsure about his temperament, and you are unable/unwilling to send him off to an uncertain future, then I would suggest this.

I applaud you for having the courage to take this decision, and I hope that you get to the bottom of the problems this guy has, and make the best and safest decision for both of you.
