horses parked
horses parked
QUESTION: hello ma'am, have you observed in this picture, these horses are made to park. may i know the advantages of parking a horse?

ANSWER: Rohit,

I have never seen this way of securing a horse before. I was quite disturbed at first sight of it.
Where did you take this picture?
I will ask you questions.......are they also tied up by their heads? I cannot tell from the picture.

In the past, especially in our western states, it was known to hobble (that is what we call it) horses. Usually it was the front legs and it was done so that the horse could graze all night but not get far. Obviously it could not be where thre were predators, and frankly it is seldom done anymore.

I do NOT like the looks of this practice. It so limits the way the horses can move and I would think it would be unsafe if somehow they got tangled up.

In the States, we just usually tie the horse's head if we are trail riding or he is tied to a rail or a trailer, and that is with a quick release knot at the withers for safety for the horse.

QUESTION: only the hind legs are tied like this. yes, their necks are tied as if someone bound a dog with neck collar. is this method done to get rid of colic?

Answer
As a stated before, I am not familiar with this type of tying.

I would be only guessing that it is to be sure that there is no way for these horses to get loose.

I do not like this method......it looks unsafe and abusive.

Thank you for introducing this to me. I had not seen it before.
