Question
Hi, I have recently bought a half brumby 12 month old filly. She has only had human contact in the past four weeks and that was only minimal... I am wondering the best way to get her to trust me and to train her at the start.Thankyou Veronica

Answer
The best thing you can do is give this filly time. Don't try pushing her because this is all very new to her... she needs to learn to relax around people and eventually come to you rather than you going to her.

If she is in a small enough paddock and preferably alone, try to go sit in the paddock a few times each day, just quietly, and not directly watching her. She'll eventually get curious and start coming to you.

This is the ideal way to get her to trust you, although sometimes time doesn't permit this... if you don't have the time, roundpenning is great for both of you to bond. Work on doing join-up (ask follow up if you need instructions, I'm back online, will take only a day to reply) with her and you should get her trust soon.
