Question
Is 17.1hh to high for Showjumping?

Answer
Hi Holly!

Unfortunately, my answer cannot be as brief as your question!  LOL!!

As a rule, a horse can comfortably jump as high as his belly but, obviously go higher.

If he is a Thoroughbred, a Standardbred or a draught-cross and not too heavy, I would say no.

If he is something heavy and clumsy or even worse a breed not in fashion (Heaven Forefend you should have a judge not like your horse's breeding!) in the circuit you jump in, I would say yes.

The old saying "It's not the dog in the fight but, the fight in the dog!"  applies here too  :-)

Good luck and always remember to wear an ASTM/SEI approved helmet!
