Question
my husband and i bought our daughters their first horse at christmas he is a welsh cob 14 hands 3 at the moment and 3 yr old in april, when we bought him he was broke in and very quiet for a young pony, we had a few enjoyable weeks just basic riding him round a menage, then one day he bolted and threw the kids off. after seeking advice we have now found out that the saddle he came with  did not fit properly and has hurt his back and he will not be mounted anymore we have got a horse specialist in who is fixing his back but now we have been told thaT HE WAS TO YOUNG TO BE BROKE AND RIDEN AND WE HAVE TO TURN HIM AWAY TILL NEXT YEAR. as you can imagine we are upset by this news and the kids are upset they cannot ride their pony. we have been told just to teach him some manners and show him by hand, do you think he is to young and we have got good advice much appreciated gayle and peter.

Answer
Hi Gayle,
I hope that your kids were not hurt. The person who told you that he was broken too young is correct. What you can do is work on ground manners and you might want to send him to a Trainer this Summer to make sure that he is still safe for your children to ride. I wish I could give you better news.
