Bit Chomping

Question
Hi I am a thirteen year old female. I currently own three horses. The horse I am having the problem out of is Nakita. They have open access to the field and stall 24/7. Normally Nakita is very well behaved, quick to respond and such. Well we bought a new bridle, if anything alot better than her old bridle. It is the exact same bridle but newer. We use the same straight bit with her aswell. I was riding her, and she constantly chewed her bit and slung her head. We do use a chinstrap and tie-down, could there be something wrong with the equipment or what? Thanks!

Answer
Hi Lexie!

I'd like to ask a few questions before I recommend anything.  How old and what breed is Nakita?  How long have you owned her and who broke her to ride?  What do you do with her and how often is she ridden? Do you longe her often....and before every ride? Can you tell me the name of your bit and are you absolutely sure you attached it correctly to the new bridle?  I have seen stranger things than a backwards bit!  Lastly, was she doing any of these behaviors before you put on the new bridle?  Think hard, has anything else changed?
