Question
Hi...i have a 7 year old red ear slider....the problem is that my mum got me one when i was only 10 years old...at that time i knew nothing about how to really care for it...i would like to get things right now...however, her shell seams rather dull, dirty and it looks like it has sunk a little...it doesn't look like the shells of those RES that i have seen online...the ones online look clean...i wonder if its any kind of infection or is it anything serious?? the vets a round my place are mostly those that tend to dogs and cats....can i bring my RES to them too?? please let me know what it is...is it some calcium deficiency or any kind of infections or fungus or anything serious?? what can i do? i have a picture of her shell...if only i could post it up here....

Answer
Hi Summer,

The older a turtle gets the more demanding they become for vitamins and minerals. Make sure you have a full spectrum light source and a dry area for him to get on to. There is a cream you can put on the shell called "vitashell". It is less than 5 dollars U.S. or if you have nail cream that women use for their finger nails that will work as well. But not to worry because cause it is not an immediate threat to the health of the turtle.
