Painted Turtles Eat Babies?

Question
We have a new painted turtle and she layed a clutch last night.  This morning, the clutch is gone.  Did she eat the babies or the eggs inside the clutch?  What should we do now.  Do we take the clutch out when she lays it from now on?

Turtles will sometimes reingest infertile eggs- but it is often a sign that something is wrong with the other cares- too small of a cage, wrong diet, no nesting site, etc.
