Question
Hi, i have a red ear slider turtle, i bought him at the pet store about a year and a half ago, and he always seemed fine and healthy. just recently about 2 months ago i let him walk around my room for a little while, and he found his way out of my room from the door being left open. He was lost for about 3 in a half weeks, and when i finaly found him his shell was freezing cold, but i cleaned the tank and put him back in it. he has not eaten since i found him. also, about a week ago, i noticed his eyes looked puffy or swollen like, they are also kind of whitish, so i took him out the tank and he started scratching them and a little puss came out. I bought turtle eye drops but they dont seem to be working. Im not sure if hes sick, or if he has an infection, but he looks unhappy. I switched up his food varieties also, i gave him feeder goldfish, pelletes and vitamin coated crickets, but he didnt eat any of them. Other then the puffy eyes and the not eating hes still very active when out of the tank, and he still basks, but when hes not basking while in the tank he just sits with his eyes closed under the log. I dont know if this is a sign of an illness and i should take him to a vet, or if its just because he wasnt in his tank for almost a month lost. I dont have a heater for my water either, so the water is somewhat cold. could this be a bad thing? i dont know what to do.

Answer
Puss is almost always a sign of an infection, and infections almost always need medical treatment from a vet.

He needs treatment soon since he will not eat if he cannot see.

He also NEEDS warm water, 75-80F, and you may want to think about giving a good care site, like http:/www.redearslider.com a look to make sure things are going right.

Just as an example- Red-ears are water turtles, they don't particularly like walking around on dry ground or being loose in unfamiliar places.
