Question
QUESTION: 2 months back i bought 2 RES turtles.one of them is doin extremely well.infact he has become bigger and is very active whereas the other one is the same size as before and has recently started behaving differently.after alot of research i realised that he is suffering from RI.he is hardly eating, started gasping although i dont notice any bubbles aroung his mouth.he is also swimming lopside.i enquired for vets treating turtles and unfortunately i have none in my area.i found out on the internet in one of the sites that turtles with RI can be treated with im gentamycin 5mg/kg. Being a dentist by profession, and having some knowlege on giving injections, i decided to treat him myself.i have given him 2 shots so far. now i was going through some other sites and these say that gentamycin is not the drug for RI.now im confused.please if u could just clarify as to which drug is best for RI.im also afraid that he might be having pneumonia..he is unable to go underwater..my initial suspician was he has fluid in his lungs.if u could jus guide me,il really appreciate it. Thanks.

Answer
Id recommend that the vet write you a diffrent drug. it takes a while to clear up a uri, however Id make sure tht xrays are done and that there is no sign of pneumonia. this type infection usually doesnt show until it is advanced

if your vet would like she can contact me and ill assist
