baby snakes not eating

hello,

im working in the reptile section of a pet store that just recently took up the care of reptiles... im supose to watch over and try to hold a high standard of good living conditions for my animals.. but im afraid im failing... because though my adult snakes are eating fine, the hatchlings we have are not so cooperative...

we have 11 california king snakes..2 glossy snakes... one mexican night snake... and 2 beauty snakes.. all probably no more than a month old and almost all of them are refusing to eat...  most of them have been shedding and thats why they refused but even after the shed... their just un willing to eat... i see them moving around as if looking for food.. but when i try and feed them... they act like the prekilled pinky isnt even there.. we tried live pinkies and they seemed even less interested... the temp is kept at the proper warm/cool gradient of 76-86 F (24-30 C) in their cage during the day, with a drop to about 70-74 F (21-23 C) at night... water is changed daily.. and their enclosures are about the size of a large shoe box each...  

i figured it might be the new enviorment since we didnt breed them ourselfs but had ordered them from our partners in germany... its been a good 2 weeks and a half since they arrived.. and some of them havent eaten since before they got onto the plain to get to our store..

however even with the fasting... all the babies have not shown any significant weight lose... just one of the beuaty snakes is back bone is starting to shown.. and their all pretty fiesty and active... so what are we doing wrong?? how can we get them to eat.. we have had to handle them frequently in the last few weeks they have been with us to change their beddings and to get get them used to it.. should we stop for a while and let them settle in.. please please.. tell me what to do.. iv already lost 1 king snake out of the original 12 and one beauty snake out of the orginal 3...

the snake i bought is a small baby california king snake.. she ate the day before yesterday and 2 the next day.. and is active by the third day.. how can i get all the other babies to be as she is.. or atleast close??  ... any help would be nice.. i just dont want to look at another tiny body.... =(

Hi Bug,
   Well, it sounds like you are doing everything right. If F/T doesn't work, continue to try live. If you can get your hands on a hamster pinky, or a small enough quail, try that. I do not thing that any of your housekeeping will keep the snakes from eating. If you are not already doing it, leave the pinkys in overnight. Try feeding at all hours of the day and night. Try rubbing the mouse pinky on a rat to see if they will take it (don't know why, but this sometimes works). I have to tell you that I have not had much luck with the beauty snakes. I had a Taiwan and a Blue years ago and they eventually starved to death. I got them to eat some, but the best I remember, it was like once every two months or something ridiculous like that. Let me know if I can be of further help.
