Dumerils Boa

Question
I have a young Dumeril's boa that I got in February 2008 and since then he has only eaten 4 times. I know that some snakes require an adjustment period when you first get them and he finally started eating about 2 months after we got him. We started feeding him live because Dumerils are ambush hunters and he ate 4 times. After feeding him in June we decided to try to feed him frozen-thawed because i believe it is safer and my other 5 snakes eat that way. After finding out that he didn't want the frozen-thawed, we tried giving him live again just so that he would eat something but now it seems as though he doesn't want to eat either of the two types. Any suggestions on how to get him to eat? (i.e., force feeding, waiting until he decides he wants to eat, etc...) Or could there be any other reason why he won't eat? Thanks.

Answer
Jeff, he is not eating enough. These boas are quite inactive, but still need to eat more than that. Keep trying live until he eats. As a last resort, try a chick or live hamster. If this works, keep on live specimen and scent the rats with the smell of the item he likes. Once he eats live rats for a while, change over to frozen. I am not an advocate of force feeding. This is stressful for the snakes and they can be easily killed through this process.
