An albino baby corn snake

Question
I had bought this snake from pet partners a few days ago. Do the eat once a week or once a month? Do you have to have a day light and a night light or can i just use the day light and turn it off at night?

Answer
Hi Gabby

corn snakes, like most snakes, should be fed once a week on a mouse only slightly bigger than their largest section of their body. if your corn is a baby this will be roughly 1 or 2 pinky mice a week.

as for the light, so long as the temperatures in the tank are correct (84F ambient temp with a hotspot at one end - up to 95F) and there is at least one hide box for the snake, it doesnt matter what lighting you use. this said however, corn snakes shouldnt have any UV lighting in their tank as this can damage the cornea in their eyes. the best thing to do would be to have a thermostat or dimmer switch connected to the lamp so that you can easily control the amount of light and temperature given off by the bulb.

i prefer to use a coloured bulb as this gives out the same heat but less light.

thanks for your question,

Andy
