Snake in my garage

Question
Hi, I have a snake in my garage.  I am sure my husband will get it when he gets home so I am not too concerned for now.  My question is how can I keep them out in the future?  I have encountered more snakes in my yard this year than in all the 6 years I have lived here and I knew it was just a matter of time before this happened.  I don't know why but they keep coming really close to my house.  Is there something that I can put in my yard to keep them away?  Is there something that I could put near  the garage door that will deter them from entering?  My aunt says they don't like moth balls but I would like to know if that is true before I go out and buy them.  Thanks so much for your help!

Answer
well, my expertise is more with keeping snakes than in keeping them away  :)  however, I do remember seeing a product called Snake Away or something like that in our local garden store. It was on the aisle with all of the pesticides. Don't know how well it works but you might check your local Home Depot / Lowes to see if they have it. As far as why they are coming there, snakes are attracted to food and shelter. Either you have mice nearby or else perhaps there's just a lot of nooks and crannies in there for them to hide out. If you're in a very hot climate them may be seeking shelter from the heat.
