Question
ive got a red tail boa. she is about 4 to 5 months old.
ive got two questions.
1. when i hold her she sometimes makes a clicking noise. It doesnt sound like a hiss, and she has never tried biting me so i was wondering if you might know.
2. I tried to feed her exactly 30 minutes ago it is 3/15/09 at 10:00 pm
( i feed her frozen/thawed pinkies )and i got some tongs and wiggled it around and she went for it. i left the room for about 15-20 minutes to let her eat in peace and when i checked to see if she was eating it she was just wrapped around it. but her head was no where near the mouse. She hasn't eaten in at least a month and a half because she just hasn't been wanting to eat. But the thing i just don't get is why she would curl around it and not try eating it. I keep the humidity over 50 at all times and keep the temp. between 82-90. So i don't know hopefully you can help.
Thanks

Answer
Hi Dustin,
1. Your snake could have a respiratory infection. Get her to an exotic animal vet asap. This is fixable if you catch it early. Does he have saliva and does he gape his mouth at all?

2. The infection could be causing her not to eat. If she has no other signs than the clicking noise, it could just be that she is one of those snakes that act weird in winter. It happens. Just keep trying to feed. If she is well, she will eat within another month. If she is sick, then I give the illness a 90% probability of causing the problem.
