Question
I went to a reptile expo and got a Hogg Island boa for free because of a swollen eye one eye is swollen it looks like it is full of liquid I asked the guy is it genetics or an eye infection he said he couldn't tell anyways I went to another reptile breeder he told me he sees no infection but there is a lot of liquid in it he said he thinks maybe bedding irritation or it hit something hard and swell up as a bodies natural defense he got a needle and syringe and took a lot of liquid out of the eye two days ago, today I look at the snake again the liquid came back.  Is it an eye infection or genetics it looks full of liquid looks like a bug eye.  Just the right side the left side is normal I've been doing researching online some people think retained eye cap it is a young female hogg island snake 12 inches across.

Answer
I doubt it is genetic. It does sound like either and infection or a retained cap. I'd take her to the vet to be sure, but I am betting it is indeed an infection. I have seen many eye caps retained and have never noted any clear fluid. Get it checked out, but love the snake either way. I have a Brazillian Rainbow Boa that is blind in one eye, doesnt affect him a bit.
