leopard gecko difficulty balancing

Question
QUESTION: Hi.  I have a leopard gecko that is approximately 8 years old.  I've had her for 5 years.  She is on slate with reptile mat on about a third of the cage over top of the slate.  I have overhead UV light and under tank heater regulated to 90 degrees on the hot side and 75 or so on the cool side.  She used to eat crickets and super worms regularly and weighs 90 grams.  I dust frequently with calcium and always have some calcium in a small dish in her habitat.  About 2 months ago, she started having difficulty walking normally like she was drunk.  She stopped eating and started to lose a little weight.  I started feeding her a mix of calcium, vitamins, blended meal worms, with some squash baby food and some high protein canned dog food via syringe.  She's maintaining her weight now at 90 grams and although a little lethargic and very dizzy, otherwise acts fairly normally.  I saw in another response a suggestion to ask a local pet store about a vet that can test her feces.  I can pursue that route, but otherwise have no ideas on what to do.  Do you think it's worthwhile to do this testing?  Is there something else I should try?

Thanks in advance for your time to answer my question.  regards, George

ANSWER: Hello George,

The fecal test may help to make sure there are not any parasites or worms present to affect her health.
How much calcium does she receive?  Sometimes, it is possible to get too much calcium.  How are her urates, hard, soft or discolored?  Are the stools overly smelly?
Which UVB are you using right now, a tube bulb or compact/coil light?
At 90 grams she is very healthy & large.
Her tank setup sounds great, along with good temperatures, also.

Let me know how she is doing.

QUESTION: Thanks Tracie for your fast response.  I'm not sure how to quantify the calcium she's getting.  Back when she was eating live food before the dizziness started, I dusted the crickets about every other feeding.  Ever since then the home made food I'm giving her is about 1 tsp. calcium and 1 tsp. herp vitamins per finished cup of food.

Nothing unusual about the urates; they are almost completely white and easily crushed to a fine powder when dry.  No really strong smells in the stool.

The UV is a white mushroom shaped ceramic bulb.

thanks again, George

Answer
Hello George,

Poor girl.
Try getting a different UVB.  The best UVB lights are the tube bulbs, either the Reptisun 10 or the Arcadia D3 12% tube bulbs.  You can get them from here:

With her age, she may possibly not be absorbing calcium very well.  If the UVB light is not emitting enough UVB exposure, she wont be able to absorb her calcium.

It sounds like though, overall, she is getting enough supplemental calcium.
Did she eat today for you?
Continue with assisted feeding right now.
I recommend trying to get a fecal done if possible.
Are you using a digital probe or temp gun to measure the temperatures with?
Do you have any pictures of her right now?
Has she ever laid infertile eggs?

Let me know how she is doing.
