Leo w/ prolapse

Question
I read your answer to Marnie on how to care for her gecko until the visit to the vet.  We noticed our leo had a prolapse last night about midnight (we think he's a boy but aren't positive). We've done what you suggested, but here's the major problem: he's biting, pulling, eating at it.  I'm afraid that this will cause more serious problems. It's Sunday and our vet is not open until tomorrow morning. I've called the animal ER but the doc who specializes in reptiles isn't there today.  What are your thoughts; have you ever seen/heard of this before?-Erica

Answer
Hi Erica,
It can bother them to the point they bite at it.  Have you soaked him in the sugar water? If not, please do so.
Are they able to get in contact with the reptile vet? If so, that vet should be able to tell the vet on duty how to deal with it.
In the mean time, after soaking, you can try to fashion a diaper of sorts for your leo using gauze or a thin gauze pad.  Cut a hole for the tail and for his legs to go through.  Be sure to keep it moist with the sugar solution.
You may have to try other vets in your area also.

also, by going to  http://www.arav.org/ECOMARAV/timssnet/amm/tnt_mdsearch.cfm  and putting in your state or other info, you can find a vet.
ARAV has changed their site greatly...it used to list the member vets by state with all the info, now they list names only...
