QuestionI found a snake in my yard while mowing my lawn. The snake is brown and have a unique pattern on it body and its very small it about 6-8 inches long I believe. I would really like to know if it venomous because I have little kids around. If it is I will get rid of it. But I would like to keep it.

AnswerHi Tommy, this snake is called the DeKay's Snake also known as the Northern Brown Snake
They are non-venomous
so it shouldn't be a problem. But be sure if they want to handle it that they wash their hands very well afterwards. And be careful because they are non-venomous doesn't mean that the bite doesn't hurt.
