Question
QUESTION: he seems to like to make some kind og under ground burrow in the soil (it is slightly moist and soft) i thought it stayed in the tree?

ANSWER: Are you sure it's a VEILED chameleon?  And are you sure it's a male?  IS it 3-4 months old or have you only had it 3-4 months?  Females will dig holes to lay eggs in.  Other than that or perhaps foraging for food, I've got no clue.

QUESTION: yes it is a veiled ,not sure about the sex bought it from petco they said it was a baby and they had it for three months it is aprx:8-10"/with tail and about little bigger than qaurter in thickness /coloring is base green, uppers are light green with pinkish stipes ,it has smoothness at the base of the feet, ive had it since the 12th of march this year

ANSWER: So you've had it 3 days?  Just a guess here-are you keeping it in a glass tank?  If so, is it "digging" near the edge?  Chameleons should NOT be housed in glass tanks.  They don't understand the clear barrier which glass provides.  They should be kept in a wire or screen type enclosure so that the wire or screen provides not only a physical but also a visual barrier.  Can you send me a picture of the lizard and the cage?  Thx

QUESTION: yes, until i can buy a wire mesh cage,no it dug in the center a hole to fit half a base ball near the tree bottoms half way to the heat source.i can not send pic at this time .i wonder if you could send me a pic of what an egg looks like at various stages please ,i thaught i might have seen something it had in the hole but it seemed to have dissapered and its been curling against the inside the hole (like a dog on a rug)I am new to the world of herps

Answer
I don't have any pics of eggs-you could probably do a web search for one though.  I can tell you they don't disappear!  I personally have never had a chameleon that hung out on the ground for extended periods of time so I find this behavior odd, but have no idea (other than egg-laying, which yours seems to young for) as to why it would be doing it.  What type of "tree" do you have in the cage?  I would use Hibiscus, they really like those.
