cut on geckos leg

Question
QUESTION: My son's pet gecko was in an accident and obtained a cut to her rear leg.  The bleeding has stopped and she is favoring the foot.  What can we/should we do next to help her?  Does this require a vet or can we take care of her ourselves?

ANSWER: Hello Ken,

Is she able to walk on it at all?  The bleeding has stopped you mentioned?
Well you can try to treat it at home to prevent infection right now & watch to be sure infection does not set in.  Do you think that she broke her leg or just scratched it?  How did it happen?
You can keep it clean with a diluted betadine solution, & then put some neosporin or polysporin on it, daily until it begins to heal up.
Let me know how she is doing.

Is she eating right now?

QUESTION: Thanks Tracie,
We cleaned the wound and put neosporin on it.  She's not favoring the leg at all and is eating.  Seems to be doing allright.
As for how it happened, my son dropped her light into the tank.

Answer
Hello Ken,

Good that she doesn't seem to be favoring the leg right now.  Just keep an eye on it & unless it gets infected, she should heal right up pretty soon.
Accidents do happen, & I am glad that it wasn't more serious.

Let me know if you need anything.
