QuestionHello Dave
Our Calf. rabbit gave birth yesterday, the baby rabbis are in the nesting box, covered with the mother's fur, I want to check and see how many baby rabbits she had, but I'm worried about missing with the nesting box. I am concerned that there might be a baby rabbit that didn't make it that I need to remove ASAP. This is a first for us! Any sugguestions would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks, Cindy
Answerhi cindy -leave it for 24 hrs.
then remove the doe and give her a tit bit, cover your hands with dirt from her box and carefully look in the nest, remove any dead young, if all ok cover them up again and reintroduce the doe.
if at any time you see a baby out the nest before its eyes are open , you will have to put it back in the nest as does dont give a hoot for any young out the nest, they leave them alone and they die.
carry on feeding as usual the babies eyes should open between 7-10 days old.
