I HAVE BEEN A RABBIT BREEDER FOR 20 YEARS NOW IM PUZZLED.
I HAVE A PAIR OF THIRD AND FORTH GENERATION HIMALAYONS BOTH WEAR BRC RINGS THEY HAVE HAD 2 LITTERS OF PERFECTLY MARKED BABIES. BUT THEY HAVE PRODUCED 2 BABIES THAT HAVE CHOCOLATE COATS AND BLACK MARKINGS ON NOSE TAIL LEGS AND EARS. THE MARKINGS ARE PERFECT FOR THIS BREED, MY QUESTIONS ARE WHY ARE THEY CHOCOLATE, IS THIS RARE, ARE THEY RECOGNISED AS HIMALAYONS.

AnswerWell, according to the British Rabbit Council's website, there is such a color for Himalayans. You can see the info at http://www.thebrc.org/hima.htm It's called chocolate Himalayan.
Don't know if you could show them, and not sure what recessive gene would cause this, but, it is a recognized breed color for that breed.
We don't breed rabbits so I have not taken the time to learn about genetics.
