EMERGENCY: rabbit bleeding from her vent

22 10:59:17

Question
My female rabbit is 4 1/2 months old, she experiences, I believe, "false" pregs, because she has the symptoms but no babies. Today, she is bleeding through her vent, I have no idea what this means. Her behavior is normal, just being herself, but she is bleeding kinda alot, is she goin thru labor or something? Please get back to me, I don't know whether I should leave her outside on the balcony or bring her back into the kitchen, there's blood constantly on the floor.

Answer
Dear Danny,

Please get your bunny to a good rabbit vet *immediately*.  The most likely explanation for the blood is that she has uterine cancer, and that a tumor is now hemorrhaging.  This could kill her if the bleeding is not stopped quickly, and she will probably need to be spayed as soon as she is stabilized and is a reasonable risk for this surgery.

You can find a good vet here:

Please get her to a good rabbit vet NOW.  She could bleed to death more quickly that you might imagine.  She is a small animal, and if you are seeing blood on the floor then the condition is very serious.  This is an emergency that should have had you knocking on your rabbit vet's door right away.  The internet is NOT the place to seek help for something like this!

I hope she is well soon...but you must act quickly!
