Question
i have an adult rabbit, daisy, who is about 2 years old. when she was young she was very friendly and cuddly, but all of a sudden her attitude changed and she hated being picked up. iknow that she didn't get hurt or have a traumatic experience when she was handled, so i have no idea what could have triggered it. anyway, i was wonderin if it is possible to re-tame, so to speak, an adult rabbit? and how is the best way to go about it?

also, i was wondering if i could be able to train daisy to be an inside rabbit, and what that would involve?

thankyou so much, i really appreciate you time :)

Answer
What happened with Daisy is that she hit puberty (aka breeding age)  This is something with female rabbits that happens sometimes, they get aggressive, mooody, and hard to handle.  Most rabbits don't enjoy being picked up, it makes them feel unsafe, as they are ground dwelling prey animals and in most rabbits being picked up is equivalent to being picked by a predator.

Getting her spayed is going to be your best bet. Especially if you want her to be a house rabbit.  However bringing her into the house may settle her down and cause her to be less aggressive if she feels safer.   Turning an outside rabbit into a house rabbit involves buying a wire bottom pet cage (you can find them at petsmart, petco, and tractor supply which is where i suggest going)  Then you can start working on litter training the rabbit when it is outside the cage, most rabbits take to this really easily but be prepared for it to take a while.

Also most rabbits who are cage aggressive aren't that way once they are outside of their cage, so this is a good way to start working on her being more friendly and getting to know everyone.  If she can start seeing your family not as a potential threat to her territory but as a welcome visitor then her attitude will change.

As a breeder, I do not agree with every opinion of the house rabbit society, however I know good information when I see it, and they have some wonderful articles on house rabbits and litter training etc.

Good Luck
