taming adult rabbits?

Question
Hey! i have a rabbit that is around two years old. when she was young she was very friendly and cuddly, but then she hated being picked up all of a sudden, and since then i have been lazy and haven't handled her very much. so i was wondering if it was possible to tame an adult rabbit?

Also, she lives in an outdoor hutch and i was wondering if i would be able to tame her as inside rabbit?

thankyou so much, i appreciate your time :)

Answer
Hi Candice,

it is possible.  There is one thing you must do for it to work.  She needs to be spayed.  It reduces cage aggression and hormonal behavior in both males and females.

With females it is even more important for their health.  Unspayed females have an 85% chance of dying of uterine cancer before age 6.  Spaying prevents a painful death, and lets them live 10-12 years.

She will be much better off inside with you as a house rabbit.  You will be able to bond with her better.  I would strongly suggest picking up the House Rabbit Handbook to read up on bunnyproofing the house/area of the house she will be in.

I also suggest only going to a good rabbit vet for exams and her spay.  Not all vets are good rabbit vets.  To find one in oyur area, go here:

and find a House Rabbit Society recommended vet near you.  Also check out the great articles on bunnyproofing, and nutrition and many other topics: www.rabbit.org
