Rollercoaster eating

Question
Hi,
Thanks for your previous support.   In summary, my little Netherlands dwarf, who is over 7 years old, had 2 loose teeth pulled 3 weeks ago today.   After taking anti-biotics and pain killer for most of those 3 weeks, he ate well without the metacam from Tuesday through Thursday of last week.
He has started acting like he has a sore mouth again.   As of Friday's trip to the vet ti get his anti-biotic injection, his weight was above what it had been when he was healthy, and the doctor pulled the anti-biotic.   Saturday he ate well, but yesterday he ate almost exclusively watermelon and pellets that were wet from watermelon juice.   He struggled with apple slices, and is making a face like his teeth hurt.
Today he has had nothing to eat on his own since  5:30 a.m.   I have given him Banana Ensure and water orally, but I am convinced something is wrong already.   I am taking him in first thing tomorrow.   My experience with the emergency clinic here is that they won't do anything I can't do here until then.
Personally I do not want to give up on him, but from your experience, are 3 operations in half a year too much to put him through?   I have read other comments, and I guess I am terrified of having a toothless bunny, but then again, if that ends the pain, can he still live a happy life?   Sorry to ramble and thanks.

Answer
Dear Robert,

I hope he doesn't lose any more teeth, and that a simple molar filing will solve his problem.  But if he *does* end up toothless, then he can still live a happy life.  You'll need to fluff his pellets, and cut his hay and fresh food into tiny bits so he can manage them, but manage them he will.

For pellet fluff, you can just cover his pellets with warm chamomile tea (or just warm water).  The pellets will fluff up into a powder.  You can poof it up with a fork, and he'll be able to eat that with no problems.

I've known of plenty of toothless bunnies who do just fine.  But cross that bridge when you come to it.  I hope he needs nothing more than a molar float.

Hang in there!
