sqeaky rabbit?

Question
Within the last couple of days my dwarf rabbit has started to make squeaking noises similar to the sound a mouse makes. He is 1 year old and  hasn't had any change in his eating patterns or his behavior. He mostly seems to make them when he is put in his cage for the night, but has been heard making them occasionally when he is in the house. oh yeah he is entirely a house rabbit just in case this could help you. If this is a problem what can i do to help him.

Answer
Dear Joanne,

If he makes these noises mostly when he's unhappy or frustrated, he could just be vocalizing.  Most rabbits vocalize with a low-pitched buzz, but some make a squeaker "whining" sound when unhappy.

Is your bunny spayed/neutered?  If he's sexually frustrated, he could be whimpering, which sounds kind of squeaky.

If he's acting normal in every other way (no lethargy, appetite normal, drinking normal, poops normal), then it's probably nothing serious.  But if you suspect the sound could be coming from his lungs, you need to have a good rabbit vet take a listen and make sure he doesn't have a lung infection or other respiratory problem.  You can find a good vet here:

Hope that helps.  Please write back if you have any other questions.
