Question
my rabbit just gave birth to 1 baby. it was her first pregnancy and i'm guessing she does not know what to do. when she gave birth she just left her baby in the nest and acted like nothing happened. she does not feed it so my dad and i have to hold down the mother down for the newborn to breastfeed so it's getting food. i read up all about how to care for newborn rabbis so i know how much to feed them and keep them warm etc. but what has me really scared is that i read that they cant pee on their own and i had to take a wet cloth in warm water and rub the genitals for it to pee.i did this and it didn't work...i asked the guy who i bought my rabbits from what to do and he said not to bother with that and it'll pee on its own when its bladder is full...but i keep seeing that you have to teach them on more than 1 site so i'm really confused with what to do. i've goten so attched to the newborn and i cant let it die.please help me save it

Answer
hi alina -first you should not have interfered ,the doe would have fed the baby when all was quite-don't expect to see her feeding .
the breeder was right the baby will pee when it wants to just leave them in peace and feed as normal then the doe will bring up the baby as she should.the only thing you need to look for is to see that the baby does not come out the nest -if it does the doe will ignore it.
