Our Momma Bunny.

Question
We have had our happy fluffy house bunny for a long while ( 3 years ). She is a large, black and white lop ear named Oreo. She is pampered and truly the princess of our household. Recently a friend in 4-H asked us to take her outdoor pen rabbit, which she said was a female and appeared to be a female to us also. We brought "Cookie" home and continued to cage "her" (indoors), bringing "her" out to play and interact with us and Oreo. It didn't take long to realize Cookie was indeed a male and we had him altered. Meanwhile our Princess Oreo started getting nippy and slightly cage aggressive (she sleeps in cage at night). I looked for signs of pregnancy, she did eat a little more and go through water a little quicker than usual. I waited for her to pull hair - she never did. Yesterday she suprised us with six little squiggling pink and black beauties. She is being a good momma from what I can tell, but she did NOT build any kind of nest for them. They are about 14 hours old now and she still hasn't pulled fur or created a nest. I found a box a few inches larger than Oreo and lined it with newspaper, cut a bath towel into large strips. The kits are nesting in it okay, Momma is protective of it. Should I worry that she hasn't pulled any hair? Is it okay to use a laundered towl (Tide & Downy Sheets)? Is there anything else I should add or remove? One website suggested I should put babies in a seperate cage, laudry basket or box and only bring Momma to them twice daily... Should I or shouldn't I remove the kits? What do I do if Momma starts using box like litter box? I apologize for so may questions, this just really took us off guard and our vet is away at a 4-H clinc.

Answer
Check out this information at http://www.rabbit.org/care/babies.html  Certainly I'd worry that she didn't create a nest, but you did, and what you used should be fine.  And check to make sure they are getting fed, if they have fat little tummies they are being fed, if not, then she isn't taking care of them.

Just leave them in with her, they should be fine.
