Albon or Baytril

Question
I have a 6mo old Holland Lop fighting a case of the sneezes.  The bunny has a dry nose, tons of energy and eats all the time(good appetite).  I took her to the vet due to sneezing uncontrollably and making a snorting sound occasionally.  The vet pet her on .3 cc of baytril 2x day for two weeks.  This has helped, now she sneezes and makes that noise less than before, but still does.  My question is I have heard good things from breeders and reading around the Internet about sulfatrim (Albon-Pfizer).  Some breeders have treated their rabbits for bordatella with sulfatrim and eliminated the sneezing. This antibiotic is for kennel cough in dogs and cats(not tested for rabbits?).  What is better-baytril or albon for Bordatella.

Answer
Dear Robb,

Without a culture and sensitivity test to determine what pathogen is causing the sneezing (Bordetella isn't all that common in rabbits), it is not possible to know the best antibiotic for the job.  But in my experience, Albon and trimethoprim sulfa are practically useless for treating almost any type of infection.  They are very old antibiotics, and there are *many* strains of bacteria resistant to them.

I hope that helps.
