Strange behaviour

Question
Dear Dana

I want to know why my doe is acting strange towards me.  When I got her a few months ago, she was first very scared but got used to me and liked my rubs and attention.  She would go into her "your superior" pose (lying down with ears flat) when I came into her cage.  She had her first litter 3 months ago and I seperated her last baby about a month ago and wanted to start mating her with my buck again.  I put her in with the buck and he started chasing after her, she was at first lying still and he tried to mate her and he kept falling over.  I was watching to see if something happens so I could take her out.  She later became extremely aggressive and was running all over the cage and making strange noises, like grunting and growling.  I tried to take her out because obviously she was not happy and was not going to let the buck mate her.  I battled to get hold of her because she even ran away from me.  AFter a while I put her back in her cage.  Now every time when I come in her cage to rub her or give water and food she growls at me and looks extremely worried that I am in her cage.  Why is she acting like this?  Should I wait longer with the mating?  Is she unhappy that I took her babies away from her?  Or is she angry that I tried to mate her with the buck?  I don't know what to do now.  I want her to have another litter, because I think that might calm her down.  Is she not already pregnant?  If she is, I don't know how that happened.  Please help, I don't know what is wrong with her.

Thank you

Answer
Dear Marinda,

Please read this immediately:

www.bio.miami.edu/hare/breeding.html

and then this:

www.bio.miami.edu/hare/spay.html

and finally, find a good rabbit vet here:

www.rabbit.org/vets

The male "kept falling off" because he was having an orgasm.  that's what they do after ejaculation, so your bunny is most likely pregnant, and that is very likely why she is moody and aggressive.

Having litter after litter will not calm her down.  Quite the opposite!  I hope you will find the information in the articles above useful, and do the right thing.
