4 month old doe hitting puberty???

DuceJust recently, my 4 month old female rabbit has all of a sudden started to pee and poop all over her cage (and outside of the cage) even though she is litter trained. She has also started to circle around my feet & thump constantly. I understand that this is about the age females become sexually mature,but I am concerned that this behavior seemingly started overnight. I am also concerned that this behavior will last until she gets spayed. Is there anything I can do to stop (or considerably reduce) this behavior??

Dear Emily,

There is nothing but a spay that will stop this behavior.  Unfortunately, she's still a little young for this surgery.  But a very experienced rabbit vet should be able to tell you when the earliest time to spay her will be.

It's not unusual for behaviors like this to switch on suddenly.  Hormones are amazing.  She may calm down a bit once the novelty of her new feelings has worn off.  But it's difficult to say, as each individual reacts uniquely to this Awakening.  :)

I hope all goes well and she'll calm down soon.  Or can be spayed as soon as possible.
