i think my rabbit needs a friend

hi. i have a male dutch rabbit named thumper thats not even a year old yet and i want to get him a friend, but my parents think that him and this other bunny aren't going to get along or that thumper will get jealous. do rabbits normally get jealous of each other? and how do i know that thumper will get along with the rabbit i pick?

The best thing to do is to get him neutered then take him along when trying to find him a new friend. A spayed female would be the best choice generally, but if you go to a rescue, you may find a neutered male that he bonds with instead. :)

Fighting is more of a concern than getting upset about one having attention paid to it and not the other. That is why taking them along and introducing them is a good idea. Also try to find a rescue that is willing to take the rabbit back if it does not work out. You may be able to find a rescue that will keep working with you until you find a friend that he will get along with. Some rabbits get along with others right away, others need more time.
