Question
i live in downtown houston (tx) and i am not evacuating b/c i have a new puppy and an older pet mini lop rabbit.  we are expected to have our power out for 4 days.  if this happens, how long can my bunny be ok with the heat (in doors) because she is used to my loft being about 70 degrees.  i am going to have ice ready to put next to her, but i am not sure how long that will last.  also, how can i make it a more relaxed environment for her when the storm hits?  thank you in advance for your time!

Answer
Having had a House Rabbit Society fosterer deal with no electricity for several weeks in Louisiana, I would highly suggest you get out if you can.

If you can't, then read the ideas here on how to cool her down at http://www.rabbit.org/chapters/san-diego/health/cool.html  These unfortunately assume you have electricity.

My rabbits ignore storms, but, we've never been through one like that. Other than tranquilizers, I don't think you can provide anything to relax her.

Check out this info also: http://www.rabbit.org/care/emergency-planning.html

There will be shelters along the way that will take animals, find those out now and if you have to get out you will at least have some idea where you can go.
