Masking tape

Question
Is masking tape safe for rabbits?
You know the one that is kind of like tape made out of paper. Is it safe if my rabbit chews or eats a little? I make my bunny boxes to play in and I tape them closed with masking tape. So far she has not really chewed the tape at all, but in the future she might. What do you think? I don't use that much tape and I don't think that it would be too bad if she ate a little. If is is bad, what could happen to her if she ate a lot? Do you know of types of tape that are nontoxic and cannot cause blockages?

Answer
Hi,

a very small amount of masking tape should not harm your rabbit, especially if she is eating her normal amounts of hay.  I'd say its probably one of the safest tapes to use.  You could always also consider a paper tape (plain brown paper tape), without any little strands/cords in it.  That would be equally safe.

If she hasn't paid a lot of interest in the tape yet, chances are she probably won't down the road.  They can change, but bet on them as creatures of habit, and if something isn't exciting to them to chew on now, it's a safer bet that it won't be later.
